- Israelis who were or are still in captivity of Hamas cannot be claimed as 'hostages' as such is only when people are taken from their liberty and held in captivity in a country that has been living in peace. The Israelis have been in a self-declared war since 1967, and have never lifted that declaration nor signed peace with the people they are still occupying.
