Introduction

During the ceasefire period from January 19, 2025, to March 1, 2025, Netanyahu violated the agreement at least 266 times while Hamas may have violated it only one time - meaning if an erroneous return of a wrong dead body would be a violation.

One of his last violations of phase 1 of the ceasefire was the postponement of the release of Palestinian prisoners. This violation reminded us of a similar breach during the peace talks between Saeb Erekat and Muhammed Shtayyeh and their Israeli counterparts, Tzipi Livni and Yitzhak Molcho.

Netanyahu decided all of a sudden not to release the fourth and last batch of Palestinian prisoners.

The way how the Israelis were "negotiating" during the present war carried the character of parellel and pairing politics:

Parellel politics by trying to get the deal on their hands while going after new achievements, and pairing politics by giving "some" on one hand while grabbing behind anyone's back on the other. During the peace talks in 2013 and 2014, Netanyahu did exactly the same.

On Eve of Talks, Israel Approves More Housing and Stops a Rocket

In a new affront to the Palestinians on the eve of resumed peace talks, the Israeli Interior Ministry’s final approval of nearly 900 new apartments in a contested part of Jerusalem has been officially published, Israeli news media reported Tuesday. It was Israel’s second move since Sunday to advance housing construction in areas sought by the Palestinians for a future state.

It ought to feel like a moment of optimism in the long and tortured history of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, but somehow it does not.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has voiced confidence that Israeli-Palestinian peace talks will go ahead Wednesday, despite Palestinian anger over Israel's announcement of new housing in East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank. The issue was the subject of more tough questions in Washington.
