20251229 - Trump says at some point, Saudi Arabia will sign the Abraham Accords (with explanation)

COMMENT

A Saudi royal source said on this day that Israel’s recognition of Somaliland has made normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia more difficult and has further isolated Israel in the region.

Speaking to Israel’s Channel 12, the source said the move had angered Saudi Arabia and pushed Israel further away from the path towards normalised ties with Riyadh.

“This step moves Israel away from normalisation with Saudi Arabia and increases its isolation from the region,” the source said.

The Saudi royal source added that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s desire for a second term exacerbates regional turmoil.” “He is generating confusion inside Israel and across the entire region,” the source said.

The source warned that undermining the national security of a country like Egypt, which shares maritime borders with Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and challenging all the Arab and Islamic countries that do not recognise Somaliland, constitutes a clear threat.

This includes countries that signed the Abraham Accords, such as the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan, the source added.

According to the channel, the source said the move amounts to recognising separatists and violates regional security. “Netanyahu’s current policy undermines the stability of Somalia, a member of the Arab League with borders recognised by the United Nations, including Somaliland, which is not recognized by the UN,” the source said.

The source added that “as usual, Netanyahu blatantly disregards international law and diplomatic norms.”
