WAR CRIMES

War crimes are serious violations of international humanitarian law (laws of war) during armed conflict, involving (heinous) crimes against civilians, prisoners, or property, like murder, torture, rape, plunder, or wanton destruction not justified by military need, often prosecuted by international courts like the ICC. They protect non-combatants and establish rules for warfare, covering acts like killing civilians, abusing POWs, and using prohibited weapons, stemming from treaties like the Geneva Conventions.
