Information is knowledge or facts about a specific subject, conveyed through various means like words, pictures, or other signals. It can be communicated, received, or gained through study, research, or instruction.
News is information about current events. This may be provided through many different media: word of mouth, printing, postal systems, broadcasting, electronic communication, or through the testimony of observers and witnesses to events.
Information through the testimony of observers and witnesses to events happening in Gaza is a threat to the Israelis, who try to do everything to prevent that such information reaches the outside world.
The first measure they took was stopping all automatic visa applications for UN employees to prevent the UN human rights body from doing investigation in Gaza. In July 2024, the Israelis banned all foreign journalists from reporting in Gaza, while already targeting Palestinian journalists in Gaza since October 2023.
The Israelis are killing journalists in Gaza, mainly during the night so that no Palestinian can see what method has been used, an ill-conceived approach, as people still can spread information about the method that has been used.
In relation to Gaza, the Israelis have militarized information in all their wars to have full control, but they lost that war during the Gaza war 2008-2009 and 2014, while Netanyahu conceded recently to have lost the current infowar, blaming "bots and algorithm" on social media.
Therefore the following:
The Israelis are systematically claiming that journalists in Gaza are Hamas without providing any evidence of authentic nature showing that selecting and targeting of a journalist in Gaza was of legitimate military objective. We do not consider Israeli and pro-Israeli social media posts as evidence, but official documents verified on the ground by independent parties and confirmed.
Based on this Israeli action, GLOSM/PARES has decided to treat all information found as "war crime confirmed by viewing" as long as the Israelis do not allow anyone from outside, and who does have no relation to the parties involved, to verify it. When the attack targets both the journalist and (partially) his family, or when the journalist is the head of a family, it is considered 'killing families in whole or in part' as defined in the Genocide Convention.
